do i need to clean anything? change or add gas etc? or can i just start it right up?|||When you let it sit for more than 2 weeks without running it, the battery starts to drain. Assuming you have a charge, you should be able to start it up.
Most riders do spring maintenance after the winter months. That would include chain cleaning and lube / tensioning if needed, tire pressure adjustments, brake pad inspection and replacement if needed, oil and filter change. Check the air filter and clean if needed. The gas could have started to deteriorate so run a full tank of 93 gas through the system. Give it a good wash and wax, then put a few hundred on the ODO.
Performing maintenance on your bike is part of the thrill of owning a bike man. It builds the character of the bike.|||You can just try to start it, but it's best to at least start it and run it for a few minutes every few weeks. Not good for the engine to let it sit idle for months at a time. The tires can go a little flat, too.|||Around here- Madison, Wi- the winter storage tends to be 4 to 6 months. Usual drill is to trickle charge battery overnight, drain old gas from tank and put in a gallon of fresh premium, check spark plugs clean plugs, squirt in a bit of oil in cylinders, turn engine over 3/5 turns, replace spark plugs, try to start engine and run for 5 minutes or so, short test ride. If no start- then squirt carb cleaner into throat of carb, remove float bowl and squirt cleaner up main jet and vent holes, reassemble carb and try again. If that doesn't work- check plug for spark and probable remove carb for full cleaning. Check fuses for corrosion- seen a couple no starts that had that problem.|||If you started it often over the winter yes.
