Help me decide between two motorcycles: 09 or 10 Yamaha V-Star 250cc or 09 Kawasaki Vulcan 500 LTD?

This will be my first motorcycle. The primary use of the bike is to get from school/work and back home. I am 5 foot 9 inches - 180 pounds.|||Thats two different worlds when it comes to bikes. A 500cc will out perform a 250, and a 250 is going to have a significant weight difference. At 5'9" and 180lbs, a Vulcan 500 would be a great bike in my opinion, the 250 is a small bike, and you would probably be unhappy with it after about the first month.|||I bought the Vulcan and I don't regret it!

|||the vulcan 500 is by far the best. can u answer my question im david its the 1 about registering a midbike.|||Both excellent motorcycles. I'm close to you ,in height and weight, and have ridden both bikes. I'm comfortable on both.

My kid occasionally commuted 48 miles, round trip, on a 250 VStar. It will do the job you want it to, it's light, handles well and makes good power.

A friend chose the LTD as a first bike. It's a good local commuter that will take you cross-country if you want. It handles, is a little heavier than the VStar, of course, and has a great liquid-cooled engine, which I consider a plus.

You want the right tool for the job.

If I was going to use the bike solely for commuting in town, I'd save some money and go with the VStar.

If you think motorcycling may become more than cheap transportation for you, go with the LTD|||Since it's your first bike, get the 250cc, insurance and gas will be cheap. After a couple years you can upgrade to the 500.
