I am a 19-year old looking into buying a Kawasaki motorcycle.?

I wanted to see if it would be better to buy the 650R cc or the 250R cc. The reason I ask is because of financial issue. I know the 250R has nothing to compare with the 650R, but I wanted to know if there would be any downsides to buying the 250R instead (e.g. not good for highways, not enough engine, bad gas mileage, etc.). Thanks a lot. :)|||Both the 250 and 650 are fine bikes for what they are. The 250 is designed as a trainer, meaning it probably is has conservative steering geometry to make it a little more stable than it needs to be. This might affect handling, but not so's you'd notice. The 650 is better because it can cruise at highway speeds, but for around town and the occasional ride out into the countryside on secondary roads the 250 is all you need.|||Starting off, the 250 is all you need. This is your first bike, not your last.

The 250 will make around 70 mpg. The 250 will cruise the highways all day. A little wheezy on the top end, around 80 mph it taps out. Twisted mountain roads, the 250 leaves everything else for dead.|||The 250 is a blast to ride, is very light, and is the better choice for a starter bike. It is also much less expensive to own and maintain. But.... they are in high demand due to their very good fuel economy. I suggest that you expand your search to include many different MC's using this link as a guide:

This way, you can have many very good used starter bikes to choose from. A small bike really is better for you, and as someone else stated this is just your first bike not your last.|||I would recommend starting on an intermediate size bike such as a 600 cc or so with a good instructor, so that you are not tiring of several smaller size bikes, replacing them every year or so because you've outgrown them|||the ninja?

the 250 is extremely underpowered|||gorf ro abr 250

ninjas looking is good

but not in runnig|||The following is Brian M's answer to the same question yesterday. I give you his answer because, unlike these other guys who answered this question for you, Brian actually owns this bike and has experience on the others. His answer:

Contrary to Both prior opinions (have they even owned a 250?), the 250 is the MOST fun I've had on a street motorcycle in 20 years of riding (I picked up the first after 14 years of riding, 4 of road racing, and 4 as a professional MC mechanic). There's simply no other streetbike that provides the sheer enjoyment of the 250.

And it's not only capable of riding on the interstate for long peroids of time, it's well within the design parameters and we (the Ninja 250 forum) see at least 2 people each summer who are doing cross-country (or cross-continent) rides. Sometimes 2-up, usually solo.

I have a clear bias as the 250 thrills me where the 650's bore me (not as badly as the 600cc supersports though, those are "put you straight to sleep" boring if you're interested in retaining your license). It can do, and does, absolutely EVERYTHING I've ever needed a motorcycle to do on the street. I have a dual-sport too, because I like to play in the dirt too.

The 250 is better suited as a first bike because it'll help you build confidence faster. HP is a crutch that can (and does) make up for poor riding skills, and that usually bites new riders in the butt right about the time they need to make their first evasive maneuver to miss a potential accident. But you could do LOTS worse than buy the 650 as well. It's not a bad bike to start on, just not the best.

As a new rider, you ought to take a look at some of the info we've assembled:

It hits on more than just 250 topics.
