Is the Kawasaki Ninja 250R a good FIRST motorcycle for beginners?

I noticed that the Kawasaki Ninja 250R is an entry level sport bike, but as far as being a first for someone who is willing to learn the ways of motorcycling, is this a good beginners' street bike? And if there is another one of same caliber, what is it? Is the MSRP of $4,000 a good price?|||The Ninja 250 is a peach, so its easy to learn on, but its more of a scooter substitute than a real motorcycle. Its great as an urban commuter, not so good if you plan on going on roads with a speed limit of over 55, on group rides, riding two up, or riding for an hour at a time. Its most direct competitor (in the US) is the Hyosung 250. The Hyosung is slightly cheaper, but very similar, and doesnt have as strong resale value. The biggest differintiator in the two is looks.

Better for beginners, and a better value are dual sports such as the Suzuki DR-Z400. They are not as stylish, but far more capable, rugged, and versitatile, plus I think they are better to learn or. Still not great for the highway though.|||Absolutely, I started out on a 920 Midnight Virago (never do that) and then started messing around on my buddy's 250 Ninja. It's extremely light but surprisingly powerful for a 250cc. Since it's light, it's easy to handle in tight-turn situations and at low speeds (two of the most likely times that I am to drop the bike, not sure about other people).

250s aren't the flashiest or most intimidating bikes, but if you're new I'd definitely start out on a Ninja. They are in my opinion the coolest looking 250cc bikes around. BUT, if you're going to get one, I'd suggest getting a 2008+ model. The pre-2008 models could almost pass for scooters with the way they look. 4000 isn't a bad price, but if this is your first bike, I'd definitely get a used one, especially if you haven't taken the Motorcycle Safety Course. There is a 99% chance that you will drop it at some point.

Good luck!|||For a novice rider it would make a great beginner bike. Some out grow them fast but some ride them their whole life. And just to let you know, you can probably buy a used one (even the now body style) for about half that price,|||first beginner bike depends on your own capabilities then your choices and requirements. if you found Ninja 250R better according to these aspects then you can buy it.|||I have a Honda CB500 and I can recommend it as a first bike, if it suits your taste. Very easy to ride yet quite powerful if you want to. Many driving schools used to have it.|||It's fine. 250 Ninjas have a big-ish following. But take an MSF class before you buy anything!

You might consider a used one since there are always some for sale by people who are upgrading.|||Really?.......
